A labor of love for over a year, this "cookbook" was born from the commitment to center knowledges of wellbeing, care, and resistance from those caring for activists / social justice defenders in the frontlines.
Activists / defenders who are braving through political repression, human rights violations, and sociopolitical violence; from countries made marginalized by continuing empires of capitalism and colonization ("Global Majority", "Global South"). Done with intention, and deliberately designed by activists for activists -- with illustrations made by Filipino artists fighting for farmers' rights.
Like any recipe, care practices which are born from the struggle have their own culturage heritage, politics, stories, and we hope this "Cookbook" is taken not prescriptively, but as a communal kitchen of solidarity, where tastes and flavors wonderfully differ. We encourage you to reach out to these healers whose experiences resonate with yours, let us weave a global ecosystem of care, a global kitchen of hope and resistance against fascism!
This Cookbook is meant to emphasize that diverse care practices exist, that Indigenous knowledge systems and political education are vital sources of understanding (Epistemic Justice), and that courageous people and organizations have been continuing the ancient and ancestral task of midfwifing social justice.
Forever incomplete, we recognize the many healers and organizations caring for activists who we were not able to reach at this time. This Cookbook is lacking, and is a beginning of nourishing practices from and by kapwa (fellow) defenders. Please do reach out to us at keriforactivists[at]gmail[dot]com to connect our threads.
